MONKYI 涵

MonkYi [Julia YH] is a Chinese-Canadian muralist and visual artist from Toronto, whose work blends anthropological insights into dynamic, site-specific designs. Her artwork features imaginative storytelling with a range of characters, styles and narratives. She is inspired by nature, mythology, and the supernatural, incorporating elements of Chinese heritage, global folklore and contemporary culture. Her work collectively reflects the dynamic nature of life and society, ultimately exploring our shared human experience.In Toronto, she has worked with stART Street Art Toronto, STEPS Public Art, and various local BIAs and businesses. She is currently an artist-in-residence for the national CreateSpace public art residency under STEPS Public Art. Outside of her artistic endeavours, MonkYi holds a degree in anthropology from McGill University and is certified in Montessori education.
